Family Dining

Family dining is a crucial part of school life. At lunch pupils will come together to sit and eat with fellow pupils and staff to encourage debate and to develop excellent communication skills. Pupils will also try new foods, socialise, serve each other and clear the table.

We believe in the value of family dining as it reflects our community ethos, inclusive approach and high standards of pastoral care.

At Turner Free School, we expect all pupils to eat the healthy school meal at lunchtime. There are vegetables, salads and bread to accompany the meal, followed by dessert or fresh fruit.

All our food is cooked fresh on site.

The contract for producing the Turner Free School family dining meals has been won by Independent Catering. Weekly menus will be published in advance.

All meals are paid via My Child At School Parent Payment System

Independent Catering

Independent Catering provides school meals for Turner Schools. They are a small company focused on providing freshly prepared healthy meals that will help your children reach their five portions of fruit and vegetables a day. They are committed to using honest, locally produced meat that can be traced back to the farm and meets or exceeds UK animal welfare standards. Many of the vegetables used are also sourced locally which altogether helps us reduce our carbon footprint.

As a Trust we have worked very closely with Independent Catering to tailor the menus to meet our school’s individual needs and at the same time, ensuring that less sugar, fat and salt are used. The menus will change with the seasons and there will be a variety of hot, cold and vegetarian options on offer.
